Hot, hot, hot

It's been in the 100's for the past few days and there is no end in sight.  We have been at the river almost everyday doing our best to stay cool.  It's the perfect distraction!

Happenings

Braley went in for her initial orthodontia appt.  Even though she was our thumb sucker, her teeth look pretty good.  She does not need an appliance like Kahau so she will be getting braces sometime in the next few months.
Kahau is turning 15 soon and has been practicing for her drivers permit test.  The other day Jason was quizzing her and he asked, "what is a pedestrian?"  Without missing a beat she said, "A pedestrian is a religion."  First Jason looked totally confused and then looked at her face and realized she was kidding.  This was his response.
These girls keep us on our toes.

Story of the lost bike

This summer there are these cool mountain bike give-away's happening all over Oregon.  All you have to do is go to a designated spot and find a bike that has been hidden by the mountain bike builder on a date supplied.  The rules are that at sunrise you can begin your search.  Smith Rock was the site for a give-away and we were gonna win that bike dang it.
We got up at 4:30am to be at Smith Rock entrance by 5:20am (sunrise) to start searching for the bike.  We were excited as we began walking to the starting point.  And then....there was a guy sitting on a fence with the bike in front of him, wearing a big grin on his face.  He had already found the bike and brought it up that steep hill.  Cheater!
Sunrise.
The kids were bummed but wanted to d Misery Ridge anyway so we did.  That is such a fake pic below!
We didn't winthe bike but we had a super great morning.

Yes, Smith Rock, again.....

I woke up feeling like junk today.  I tried working out and I felt worse. Then I tried taking a nap and I felt even worse. So I grabbed Kahau and Ansen (Jason hiking and Braley is in Medford with friends) and we went for a good long hike.
We decided to do Misery Ridge backwards and we are glad we did.  We saw otters playing in the river and they were adorable.
We also saw our friend the heron, a ton of geese and bald eagles.  Pretty good day for wildlife, I'd say.
It was so, so hot out so we took things a little slower so that we wouldn't wear ourselves out.
Ansen took a dip in the crooked river.  Smart boy!

The selfie stick came in handy.

When all was said and done we did about 10 miles in the 95* heat.  We wore Rammy out.  He did well until the last 2 miles and then his little legs couldn't take anymore.  To be honest I think the ground being so warm was bothering his feet. Poor guy.
I really need to invest in a state park pass....

Happy Father's Day

Jason's off to conquer another part of the Pacific Crest Trail today.  That's a pretty great way to spend a day, don't you think?  He will be out for a week and we are excited to hear about his trip when he gets home.
He's going with his hiking buddy, Mike. Hopefully they don't get eaten by bears!
Happy Father's Day!!!!  Hope it's a beautiful one!

Cub Scout Camp

This past week was cub scout camp and our boy had such a good time. He swam, shot bb guns, used slingsots, played football, climbed rock walls, worked with leather, learned camp songs, made new friends and, the best part, he came home exhausted every night.

He loved hanging out with his friends all day and is pretty bummed every summer day can't go like this but I know he will be excited for next years camp.
The last night was family night.  The scouts hosted a hot dog dinner and a carnival.  The girls made sure they had fun too by getting face paint and hold random babies.
Our packs skit was super cute (can you say that about boys?) and the crowd loved it.
We love our cub scout.  It's crazy to think that next year he will be an actual boy scout.  Ekkkk!

Sisters Rodeo

Some of our new friends invited us to the official start of summer, aka The Sisters Rodeo.  It was a perfect night for a rodeo too.
The only rodeo we have ever been to is the Molalla Buckaroo and so it was fun to see a few different events than we usually do.  Also, during halftime (pretty sure that isn't the correct term) they brought some buffalo out into the area. That's a first for us.
And then the one armed cowboy (he's usually in Molalla over the 4th) had them do a buch a fancy tricks and THEN....
He put them on top of this truck.  Why? I don't know.  It was entertaining though!
Kahau has began a picture series called "my vp and me."  She thinks its funny to take photos of her and Steve (Mr. Stancliff at school, Bro. Stancliff at church) and post them to her Instagram.  Good thing he thinks its hilarious.

 The rodeo crew.
Sisters is such a cute town and we had a bunch of fun. Can't wait for the Buckaroo!
