Volleyball season

Who's the embarrassing mom who totally kept herself under control yesterday and didn't make her 7th grader wish she were living on the moon?  Me!
Yesterday was Kahau's first game and she did awesome!  I know nothing about volleyball but I am now a total fan cause there are some of the cutest volleyball players on the lady Spartan's team.
I happen to LOVE #8 with her long blond hair and lanky legs.
I love how she cheered for all her teammates and told one teammate to "shake it off" when she got really nervous.  I love how she served 4 pts. during the first game with her awesome serve. I love how she tried her best and even though they didn't come out victorious she exclaimed "Best. Game. Ever!"

Here's to a super season!  Let's go #8!

Sorry for the poor quality of pics but my camera meet a sad end and so I am operating off my phone's camera.  It's better than nothing.

True dat

This made me laugh because I am pretty sure that this statement could have been written by any of my siblings.  Shout out to Jamjam for putting my perspective on math so eloquently.

Soccer season

It's fall and that means soccer for our little man.  It's his first season and he (so far) is loving it.  I say so far simply because our weather has not become wet and nasty yet so there is every reason in the world to be outside and loving life right now.  Let's just cross our fingers that we can have dry and clear Saturday mornings thru the 1st weekend in November.

He has 3 games under his belt and in those 3 games he has scored 2 goals.  He's pretty proud of himself!

Another proud person?  This guy.  He is always the kids biggest sideline fan.
Yay soccer season!

Oktoberfest-winning

On Jason's birthday he and I went and celebrated at Oktoberfest like we do pretty much every year.  Every year we eat ahh-maz-ing food.  Every year we look at awesome crafts/vendor booths. Every year we listen to great music.  Every year we run into great friends (shout out: Lulich's, Stimpson's, Grimmett's, Hoopes and Kurn's).  MOST importantly every year we chicken dance.  And we are serious about it.
This year Jason and I participated in the 18+ Chicken dance contest and WE WON the couples division.  Ohhhhh yeaaaaaaa!  Was there even any doubt?
As winners we got the coolest prize.  A button.  Oh, not cool?  Well then, I guess we got the admiration of all our friends.  No?  Well, we are pretty pleased with ourselves.
I have a feeling the Hoopes are going to give us some real competition next year so we better start coming up with our winning strategy now so we can pull off back-to-back wins.
I wish I had pics to share but I don't so you'll just have to imagine the blessed event!

Oktoberfest

Last weekend was Oktoberfest and, as usual, we partied like sober Germans.  Obliviously we had a blast like we do every year.  Jason and I went to Oktoberfest on our won on Friday night as a date for his birthday.....more on that in the next post.  Saturday the kids and I headed over to O'fest to enjoy dancing and music and friends and Foooooooood.

While it's always fun to watch everyone else do the traditional German dances what we really attend for is the Chicken Dance! We here in the Widing Household are very, very serious about our Chicken Dancing and pretty much live to Chicken dance during the month of September.  It's a fact.

We love you Oktoberfest!  See you next year.

Swim team

Not that any of my kids have to be just like me but my mommy heart just about burst when Braley decided to try out for the swim team.  She love, love, loves it so far and I am so happy that she is enjoying it.  At practice on Tuesday one of her coaches (Rebecca) told her that she is a strong swimmer just like her Mom and Auntie Jamie.  Girlfriend smiled for the rest of the day.
Love this lil' fish!

Spirit week

Remember this whole fiasco?  I thought maybe she would never participate in a school dress-up day ever again.  Ever.  I was wrong and so happy that (again) 6th grade did not scar her for life.
Yesterday was Nerd Day at school.  Here is her own creation.....
 sign and all!
Today is Neon day.  How she got Braley to loan her those prized stretchy pants I do not know.  My guess is she pretty much sold her soul for them but she is rockin' the look from lanyard to coat to t-shirt to leggings to shoe laces.
Love this girl.

Safety first

He said: Mom can I ride my bike?
I said: Yes, wear your helmet.
My bad for not being more specific.
*sigh*
Love this kid and all his weirdness.

Well, shoot

Someone told me how wonderful I was a church today.  That pretty much is the kiss of death when I'm concerned.  So for the rest of today I have been emotional, unreasonable and, hard to understand and deal with.
Lame, huh? It's okay, I know I it.  Go ahead.  Call it like you see it.
Tomorrow will be better.  I'm going to go make dinner and improve my mood.
Peace out.

Birthday boy!

It's a nice warm sunny day here in Portland today.  Seems like the perfect day to turn 39, don't you think?
Let's celebrate!
And we are celebrating BIG time.
First the birthday boy is working and then we are putting together a boat load of IKEA furniture (which includes a new office desk and TV stand) and then we are hitting up some tag sales.
Wow.
How did he get such a adult-filled chores birthday?  He's just lucky I guess.
Just to make sure its not a total all-work-no-play birthday we are going to Oktoberfest tonight.
Yum!
Happy Birthday babe!

Craziest thing

You guy, the craziest things just happened.
Yesterday I posted a little something on facebook about my need for a Costco pumpkin pie.  At 8ish last night there was a friendly knock at my front door and the pumpkin pie fairy (disguised as my friend Tish) was standing there with a Costco pumpkin pie.
Miiiiiiiiiracle.
Thanks so much Tish.
Today I was talking to the dog (judge if you must) about what I was going to make for dinner.  We settled on fried rice and egg rolls but I did say aloud, "I'll have to grab some steaks soon to celebrate the end of summer."
An hour later another friendly knock on my door. This time from the Omaha Steak fairy!
This steak fairy was dressed in a UPS uniform and told me someone from Florida loved us.  That would be the Florida Forsberg's! Thanks so much Anders, Nikki, Brock and Meadow. They are awesome.
I am on a hot streak!
I think I'll wish for my very own Shave Ice machine next!
