Rota Virus 2, Ansen 0

My poor little guy is sick. Really sick. He has Rota Virus again. For those of you who don't know, Ansen had Rota Virus 11 months ago. It was the worst thing I've been through as a mommy. He was so sick. He lost a ton of weight (about 7 lbs.), was severley dehydrated-his IV had to be put into his head because they could not find a vein--they made 7 attempts, he had a burning fever, his eyes sunk in, and he was so lifeless. This happened almost over night. On Sunday Ansen spiked a fever of 104 and we ended up back in the ER for a less than comfortable evening. IV's, blood work, and x-rays were done. And done again. The results are that the docotors "hope" it is Rota but they have also found an infection in his blood. We are waiting to find out more information. The hope is that virus has moved into his blood stream and it won't turn into a severe case like last year. I love my little man and he will be okay, I know that, but it's scary. So hugs your kids tonight and snuggle them close.

The Widing's Take On Seattle

A few weekends ago Jason surpised the family with a trip up to Seattle. We had such a good time. I was amazed at the good weather we had while wandering around the city. We took the opportunity and went to the top of the Space Needle where we learned an interesting fact. Jayden--our typically fearless child, and Braely--Little Miss Apprehensive, switched roles. Being up so high glued Jayden to the walls and had Braley trying her hardest to hang over the edge. Ansen's only goal at the top was to sprint around the outer observatory at lighting speed. Mission accomplished. We had a great time at the Seattle Center where we went to children's events in a bunch of different buildings. We even went down to the fish market and watched the million things happening down there. Of course, when we asked the kids what their favorite thing was, it was not a surprise. Two words: "the pool". They may look like their daddy but they are my Swedish fish!

Girl..ed Cheese

Have I mentioned yet that I think having a boy is a kick in the pants? Well, it is. Today for lunch Ansen and Braley decided it was grilled cheese sandwich day. Okay, fine, by me. I made the sandiches and set them on the table. Braley began to eat...Ansen didn't touch his. Here is the conversation he and I had.

Me: "Ansen, eat up, you asked for a grilled chesse sandwich."
Ansen: "No, mama, boy sammach"
Me: "Yes this a sandwhich for my boy. Eat."
Ansen: "No, mama boy cheese sammach pease."

After a few rounds of "eat" and "no, mama" Braley finally piped in.

"Mom, Ansen is not going to eat that grilled cheese sandwich. He wants a boyed cheese sandwich."

"What?"

"I am a girl and I got a Girl..ed cheese sandwich and Ansen is not a girl. He wants a BOY..ed cheese sandwich just for him."

This could'nt be, I thought, but I made another sandwhich and put it in front of him and announced I had made him a Boy..ed cheese sandwich. He was thrilled! With a happy grin he gave a hug and said "thank you mama, I a boy."

Yes, he is a boy and he is a lot of fun. Isn't how funny kids hear things?

Mama, He Heard ME!

First grade can be tough....even a little overwheleming at times. Jayden has been feeling a little stressed with all the spelling tests, sight word tests, reading homework and math homework that is being piled on at the moment. But the worst thing of all for my typically school loving girl are word searches. She has been dreading her weekly word search because she says it takes too much time. We sat down and talked about what could make them eaiser and she and I decided that we would say a prayer the morning of her word search and ask for help. I was nervous all day for her and couldn't wait to talk to her after she got off the bus. That day she bust through the front door beaming and talking a mile a minute! "It worked!!! It really worked. Heavenly Father helped me. I just did my word search without getting frustrated and I found all my words. Heavenly Father helped me." As a mother my heart soared for her. What a lesson to learn at 6 years old. Prayers work, and thats all we need.

Is Heaven Like Costco?

As we were strolling through Costco Braley asked me this question: "Is heaven like Costco?" "What do you mean?" I asked. She thought for about 10 seconds and then said. "My teacher at church said when you go to heaven everything you want will be there. She said you can eat anything, talk to everyone and read any book you want". I shook my head in agreement. "So, at Costco you can eat all types of food, EVERYBODY talks to you and tells you their name, and there are books all over". I shook my head again. She smiled, " So Costco and heaven are kinda the same, right?" I finally verbally agreed with her that heaven and Costco might be a little alike. All the sudden I could see the light go on in her 4 year old brain.
"Mom?"
"Yeah, Brays?"
"Do you need a card to get into heaven like you need a card to get into Costco?"
"Yes Braley you should have a temple reccomend".
A big smile broke across her face. "See I told you Costco and heaven are the same".
