Not cute. Nope not at all.

Baseball players are not told by their ma's how cute they are. Or how cute they look in their uniforms.  Or how they just make a mama's heart melt when she see's her slugger rounding the bases.  Nope, mom's don't do that.  It's against the Mom-Player code....or so I am told.
Mom's are not allowed to say how much they love seeing daddy help when their player is on deck.  They aren't even allowed to think it.
Thank goodness I am one of those mom's that is just about the game and not about how cute her player is.  Gosh, that would be embarrassing.

Babysitter

Braley had a junky little cold so she has been napping quite a bit to rest up her body. It's no fun to feel crummy but when you have the best babysitter ever it's helpful.  Ramses is said babysitter. Ramses has been with her non-stop.  If she moves from one spot to another, he follows.  She goes to the bathroom, he follows (or tries to). She goes to bed, he's first under her covers.
The other kids want him to come and play but he just stays with Braley and snuggles our little sickie.
Good dog.

Opening day

 Hello sports fans!
Welcome to baseball season. That's right baseball season.  No more t-ball for our slugger.

He had two wicked awesome hits and ran the bases like a pro.
Look at this his fans in the stands!
Bring on the season!

Epic parenting fail

Seriously.  Who let me be a parent?  Obviously they weren't thinking.
A few weeks ago Kahau came home from school all excited because it was going to be Dr. Seuss Day and everyone was encouraged to dress up like a Seuss character.
The request to help her find a fun outfit was music to this Seuss loving mother's ears.  We (read: I) decided to go with a Cindy Lou Who bedtime look.  Footsie jammies, silly hair, nose turned up.  Jason broke out the marshmallows to give her little chipmunk lips.  She was a Who from Who-ville and I was super excited for her.
After school she came through the door laughing...hard.  Hmmmmm.  Our conversation:
Me: "How was school?"
Her: "Great! Everyone loved my outfit."
Me: "Oh ya? Did lots of kids dress up?"
Her: "Nope.  Their parents wouldn't let them."
Me: "Why? Cause their parents are boring and not as cool as yours?"
Her: "No, because it was spring picture day."
****insert crickets chirping****
And now for your viewing pleasure and with permission from Kahau-
Behold:
 ****Insert hysterical laughing****
Follow-up conversation:
Her: "I guess I should read the posters in the hallways more often."
Me: "I think that would be smart."
Her: "I don't know why but the lady that took my picture didn't find my outfit fun at all. She was pretty rude to me."
Me: "Well you were at school and you had a good day.  It's a fun memory for you."
Her:  "Yep, especially since we went on a field trip today too.  I was a walking spectacle."
****Insert crickets chirping...AGAIN****
.....
I love this girl and I am glad I have not scared her for life.  Ellen DeGeneres does a segment with bad photos on her show.  I am feeling the need to send this beauty in.
What do you think?
.....
I think someday when I can afford it I am going to take her (and Braley, heck all 5 of us) to a Taylor Swift concert to celebrate her being so unique and unfazed by being different.  I love her and I love my funny family!

Afaa

Right after I got back from New Zealand I had to take a test for a fitness certification. For the most part the material was completely boring.  I didn't love the studying, like at all.  I originally thought it would be fun, kinda like being back in college, but it wasn't.
The day of the test I was dead on my feet.  I'd only been home for a day and a 1/2 and I was so off on my time and days that I didn't know if I was coming or going.  Towards the end of the day (it was a 10 hour day) I totally sat in my seat with my eyes closed and "listened" as best as I could.
I felt pretty good about how I'd done on the practical test and fairly confident about how I did on the written but really I just didn't know.  I zipped through the written faster than I thought possible.  That was either an affirmation that I knew my stuff or I wasn't smart enough to know I'd failed miserably.  I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't stress about it.  So I didn't.
Today I got my test results and I passed with a super passing score.  I'm pretty pleased with myself and even more pleased that I don't have to read that mind numbing book again.

My kids are gross

 Shocker right?
Kahau got this Doctor Dreadful thing for Christmas and just pulled it out last week to see how disgusting it really was.  Because I am the authority on gross things (who made me an authority? Me. That's who.) I declare this "science experiment" nasty---with a capitol N.

Kahau and her bff Bralkelle made blisters that you could eat.  For two cute girls they sure were acting like gross boys when it came to eating their creations.

They were even kind enough to share with the other kids, who jumped at the chance to eat rotting skin.
Again it was nasty and a tad bit educational but best of all time it was consuming on a day off from school.
What's for dinner?

Family room: take 27

What? I'm sorry?  Did you just say "Aren't you guys done yet?"  That's exactly what I thought you said.  And the answer is we are sooooooooo almost there.  Like just a few tiny things to go.  But, for your viewing pleasure here is our pad and carpet going in.
End of day 1: stairs completed and main carpet ready to be laid.

End of day 2 (which really only consisted of about an hour or so):  Done!

Now to put on and paint the trim and doors and we will be ready to put furniture in.
Until next time.

A hunting we will go

This is our only before church picture from Easter morning.  I will give you one guess who ate the most sugar.  I will give you another guess at which adult in our household took the pic.  Hint: it wasn't me.
We had such a beautiful day yesterday.  I think it was the warmest day we have had this year.  We spent the afternoon searching the orchard for the eggs the Easter Bunny hid for us (see previous post) and some eggs that Grandpa and Grandma snuck in there.

These 2 yahoo's were no help at all while the kids were hunting.  I am pretty sure they were hoping the kids would miss some so that they could get some goodies for themselves.

We had an excellent dinner made by Grandma and then spent time playing in the creek and talking with each other.
What a beautiful Easter afternoon.

Huevos a la flamenca

When my Ma was in college at BYU she took a class that I think was called Traveler's Language.  I can't be 100% sure if that was the name but the purpose of the class was to learn a few key phrases in a few different languages so that if you ever traveled abroad you could find the bathroom and get eat something.
Growing up we didn't travel anywhere exotic and so she used her extraordinary food ordering skills on us children.  Now, whenever I am in need of Huevos a la flamenca ("Eggs in a basket".....i.e., eggs on toast) in a Spanish speaking country (or my current hometown)I have my mother to thank for my knowledge of that phrase.
Point of my story?
There were lots of Huevos (Eggs) in Flamencas (Baskets) this weekend at our house for Easter!
First, we decorated our eggs with...
 this one,
 this one and,
 this one.

Our huevos came out well and even Jason got in on the action and decorated one.  Just one though.  Wouldn't want to get too crazy up in here.
Then the kids left the Easter Bunny a note asking him to please take our huevos and hide them at Grandma and Grandpa Widing's since that is where we would be spending the afternoon.  There was a p.s. letting E.B. know he could leave the baskets at our house though.
Easter morning came in a sugar frenzied blur.  New slippers and candy from around the world filled their baskets.

 American chocolate...

 Chocolate Hippos from Germany...
 Lychee from Japan...
 And corn from Nebraska...
Hmmm the Easter Bunny must be from the Midwest.
Pretty fun haul if you ask Jason and I.
What did Mr. Bunny bring in your flamenca?
