Trick Or Treat

Love that this guy wants to be called a "bones man" instead of a skeleton.
Love that every year she wears some sort of girly get-up without fail.
Love that she strikes the best poses and that she know who Cleopatra is.
Love that I don't even have the ability to scare a bunch of little kids on Halloween.
Love that my kids know that if they give me all their Whoppers I will love them more.
Happy Halloween!!!!

Boo!

Last night was our second annual Fright Night with friends. We went to two Haunted Houses and screamed, laughed, and howled with excitement. Group picture. Bummer that it turned out blurry but maybe that was just the evil spirits telling us to GO away! (or it could be my piecer of a camera just acting up...I like the evil spirit theory better myself)
Group uno: The Pioneer Group (Amir & Molly and Ron & Katie). We let them go first because Ron is soooo brave and these things don't get to him. Bad idea. Keep reading and I will tell you why. Last night was Amir's first time to a Haunted House. They must not have them in Iran....maybe he could move back there and open his own house of terror....or maybe he could just stay here and come again next year. He looks terrified doesn't he?
Steph and Ashley. Both first timers too! After we pried Ashley off the pole it was a whole lotta fun.
Group dos: The Bring It On Group (Jenn & Dave, John, Jason). They were so brave and got in trouble for stopping to look at everything when they were supposed to be "moving along." Or maybe it was all Jason's snarky comments that irritated the inhabitants...we'll never know. Jenn may not have been in a Bring It sorta mood but at least the three guys didn't push her to the front and make her go first, right?
Just practicing our "Holy Crap" face.
Group Tres: The Scardy Cat Group (Steph, Ashley, Scott, some creepy girl that ate our tickets-literally-and me). Yes, Steph and Ashley are big chickens (and maybe me too) but it was with just cause. RON made sure to give out our names so every time we rounded a corner some ghoulish individual was yell ASHLEY or STEPHANIE! Poor Scott, he isn't a crybaby or a scardy cat. I think that is why he traded groups on house #2.
It was fun and thanks for coming everyone. Next year we are going to have to go to one of the Haunted Forests. BOO!
On an exciting side note: STEPHANIE GOT HER LICENCE yesterday. Congrats on being a licenced woman Junie!!!!

Carve Away!

We did it. Our happy little pumpkins now have a multitude of faces. And-just for the record-we got 6 pumpkins done in about an hour. A major feat for our house hold. Here is our before shot. Jason was trying to channel his Halloween spirit by threatening Steph with his piddly little carving knife. Way to go honey, she looks terrified.
Ansen and his "Monster" themed pumpkin. That sure is one happy monster but don't tell the boy that because to him its a fierce scary pumpkin.
Brays and her "Princess" pumpkin. Did anyone expect anything different? Anyone? It comes complete with a heart on one side and a star on the other. This child is all girl.
Jayden's pumpkin has a "Arrruuggg" look to it because it's Pirate themed. She designed it herself. It was very time consuming but she did a great job.
And now for the big, fat cheater. Steph and her spider web are cheaters. She used a stencil. Cheater. BUT it did come out cool. She's still a cheater though...
My pumpkin may not be as pretty as the cheaters but it was done freehand (no laughing, I worked hard for like 15 minutes). This is my witch complete with a mole by the nose and a wart on her chin. WHAT now ?
Like pumpkin, like creator? Jason and his robot inspired pumpkin are a cute couple aren't they?
Our finished pumpkins. What a happy family! Now if I could get the kids to agree on Halloween costumes Halloween would be complete.

Another Sunday Stroll

AGAIN the weather was great yesterday so AGAIN we had to take advantage of it by going for a walk. This time we headed out to the Colombia River and took a 3-4 mile walk. It was great.
Each kiddo found a Caterpillar. They all had names too! Everything from Tu Pac to Tyler.

I found myself a baby snake so I just had to try and love him. He didn't like it so no kisses were given. We are loving the great weather...its supposed to be in the 70's all week. I am SOOO excited.

Weekend In Portland

Last weekend we did two day trips into the big city and hung out in Portland. On Saturday we took the kids to the Portland Children's Museum. It was packed but tons of fun. The kids played in the grocery store and in clay works forever. I too loved the clay work and created a very beautiful little ladybug. Then JASON created a snake to EAT my ladybug. What a boy thing to do. The special exhibit was a Bob the Builder area. Ansen was in heaven. They played and played and came home exhausted. That's what I like!

After church on Sunday we decided that the weather was too perfect to stay inside so again we headed into town. We walked the Portland River walk and swung by Saturday Market. All the street performers were out and we stopped to watch a magician. He choose Jayden and Braley to be his special assistants. There were card tricks and funky music. Then he put a live scorpion in his mouth. Nasty. Really nasty. I think that was the moment Stephanie fell in love. Well, maybe not love just admiration. (Plus he was french and she liked his accent) Anywho, after Saturday Market we stopped to talk to the Portland Firefighters and the kids got a up close tour of the fire truck. They were all (all 4 of them) mesmerized. It was really nice of the fire fighters to take time out of their training to talk to us! We really love Portland and really have lots of fun. Now....what should we do this weekend...

Who's Norman?

Bedtime stories are fun. Tonight I asked Ansen what book he wanted to read before bed. "The Norman book," he replied. Hmmm....we have lots of books but I could not remember one book that we have that has a character named Norman. So I told him to go grab the book. He ran downstairs and came up holding his book. "See" he said proudly holding his book up for me to see "the Book of Norman." Ahhhh, The Book of Mormon. I'm glad that is his favorite story book to flip through pictures and read. Now I just need to get him to say it correctly.

That reminded me of one other cute kid *word switch-a-roo* story. I watched my friend Lorelei's son for 4 years. So naturally Jalen listened to all the music we did and eventually picked up on most of the songs. Each year we get a new Primary cd with the music for the upcoming Primary Program. The children really liked singing Follow The Prophet. One day I was listening to Jalen sing (at the top of his lungs) the chorus of Follow The Prophet. This is what I heard: "Follow the Rocket! Follow the Rocket! Follow the Rocket! Don't go astrayyyyy-" And so on! I explained the real words but he never sang it the right way. He liked his way much better. I think it was pretty dang cute too!

Pumpkin! Patch!

Hi, my name is Dana and I LOVE the Pumpkin Patch. I do. I really, really do. I always have. It is one of my favorite family outings every year and this year was great as usual. We went to our favorite "Punkin Patch" and rode the train, visited baby animals, climbed in and on the hay pyramid. This year we had grandma and grandpa come with us. So much fun! Jason is always such a good sport about my HAVING to get to the pumpkin patch. I think it is safe to say this is not his favorite family outing but he does have fun. Hmmmm...I wonder if it has anything to do with having to carry 120 lbs of pumpkin out to the car each year...
The Pumpkin Pyramid. Lots of fun climbing to the top as well as going through the pitch black tunnels inside.
The ladies were everywhere, up, down, in, out. Ansen had a touch of a fever. Poor guy. He just wanted to snuggle. We can't wait to carve them. All 10 of them!

HOG-tober Fest

Okay, so I know that when you have kids your likes and dislikes often become your children's likes and dislikes. I love watching Jayden, Braley and Ansen discover new interests as well as hobbies. For instance...when they ALL decided they loved to swim I just, well, I was the hap-happiest mommy ever. Their love for nature comes form both me and their terrific daddy and we spend lot of time outside all year round. What is the one BIG interest they have acquired from their daddy that has NOTHING to do with my "likes?" HARLEY'S! They love them. The sounds, colors, different styles, all the clothing (helmets/boots/leather)...everything. So because I have 5 Harley Davidson fans living under my roof we ended up at HOG-tober Fest checkin' out the newest "sick rides" and "sweet paint jobs." Ansen and his pick.....green flames and all!
Jayden wants a cruiser so she can take her friends for a ride!
Ape hangers are right up Braley's ally.
And of course, the biggest kid of them all found his new bike. The 2009 Rocker. Jason, you are so lucky I love you or there would be no way that death rocket would be sitting in my driveway. And, when you order it, just order a single seat. I feel much safer rolling in the mini-van. Va-rooommm!

Back In The Day

Ahhhh, the good old days. This is my sister Kirstin (left), my friend Kirsten (middle), and me doing the Macerena in 1996. Oh yeah, flashback. I found this picture and thought, "Wow. I am tan. And thin! " ***sigh*** I miss the good old days and that bathing suit...it was my favorite!

Homecoming

Stephanie and her friend Amy headed off to Homecoming last night. Didn't they look smoking HHHHhhhoootttt? Steph rocked it in a royal purple dress and flashy jewels to match and Amy looked fab-U-los in basic black and white. Glad you had fun girls and thanks for letting me drive you in the minivan...there's no better way to make an entrance then in a Chevy Venture!

It's Fall!

I have been a blog sllllllacker lately. I am truly sorry. It's fall and we have been enjoying the start of it with all sorts of fun activities...and some not so fun ones. Grandma Widing has a big garden and we have been enjoying the fruits (and vegetables) of all her hard labors! The kids love to go pick grapes! Purple or green, doesn't matter to them. Just as long as there are lots of them, everyone is happy. Jason loves to riffle through the rows and rows of veggies for anything spicy (jalapenos), hot (onions), or uh...tomato-y. mmmmm.......
ME? I just love all the corn. So good!
We also made our yearly trek to the Polish Festival and eat our hearts out. We also enjoyed some Croatian dancers and of course some serious Accordion chicken dancing.

As we were waiting in line for a children's activity THIS guys was standing right behind us. For a good 20 minutes he just stood there and stretched. And, no, not just a little simple stretching but some full on " I am about to run a marathon so you better watch out!" stretching. we could not stop laughing and I just had to take some pictures. At first I tried to be sneaky....
....then I just didn't care. It was just too funny and I just started snapping away. Who stands in a big huge crowd and does this?
I have also caught up on all my summer reading. I am a reader, but for the past few years I have not been able to read as much as I would have like to so since the beginning of July I have read The Work and The Glory 1-9, The 4 Twilight books, The Host, Out Of Jerusalem: Of Goodly Parents, and Today I finished The Fire and The Covenant. It has been nice to just devour books. I am thinking I need a new series to start...anyone have a good suggestion?
And a sure sign of fall is always General Conference. It was wonderful and I think my favorite talk was President Monson's on Change. It was just so appropriate to me and my family right now. I just love how we are encouraged to embrace change, accept it when we don't like it, and find the best in our new situation. That President Monson is one smart guy!
Now to the down side of fall.....sickness. Jayden girl picked up something art school and was down Thursday through Sunday. This was the first time any of us have been since we moved and by was is a doozie. My poor little lady was so sick she was literally delusional. It was scary but with me, Jason and Steph keeping an eye on her she is almost back to normal. *sigh* Lets hope no one else gets it!
Now we are exited to get ready for Halloween and we are so grateful for the nice warm weather we are having!
